Futuras direcciones en el estudio, diagnóstico y tratamiento de la estomatitis subprotesica. Una revisión sistemática

La estomatitis subprotesica es una inflamación de la mucosa oral que se relaciona con deficiencias nutricionales, especialmente de proteínas, y afecta sobre todo a grupos vulnerables que sufren de desnutrición crónica. Detectar esta condición a tiempo y ofrecer un tratamiento adecuado es crucial para prevenir complicaciones sistémicas y mejorar la calidad de vida de quienes la padecen. Esta revisión sistemática tuvo como objetivo identificar las tendencias actuales y sugerir futuras direcciones en el estudio, diagnóstico y tratamiento de la estomatitis subprotesica. Se llevó a cabo una búsqueda exhaustiva en bases de datos como PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science y ScienceDirect, abarcando desde el año 2011 hasta 2025. Se aplicaron criterios de inclusión que consideraron estudios originales, revisiones clínicas y ensayos controlados sobre la estomatitis subproteica en humanos, publicados en inglés o español. Se excluyeron estudios duplicados, aquellos que no habían sido revisados por pares o que no tenían un enfoque clínico. De un total de 154 registros iniciales, se seleccionaron 30 estudios que cumplían con los criterios establecidos. Los resultados mostraron que hay poca estandarización en los criterios de diagnóstico, una escasa evidencia sobre intervenciones terapéuticas específicas y pocos estudios longitudinales que analicen su evolución. Se notaron avances en la integración de biomarcadores nutricionales, pero aún hay vacíos en la validación de protocolos de tratamiento y prevención. Se concluye que es fundamental realizar más investigaciones clínicas con diseños metodológicos sólidos, que permitan crear guías diagnósticas consensuadas y estrategias terapéuticas personalizadas. También se sugiere fortalecer enfoques interdisciplinarios e incluir factores sociales y nutricionales en futuras investigaciones.
